Artificial Identities

Tutti questi pensieri poi li abbiamo espressi dividendoci in diversi gruppi: fotografia, pittura e video.

"ARTIFICIAL IDENTITIES" is the title of the exhibition which we celebrate today in the gallery of the Dreigiebelhaus in Xanten ... You, the visitors, who can visit this exhibition till March 19th, you are able to familiarize yourself with multiple symbolic meanings of identity through a variety of different types of art, and during today’s opening show the artists will be open for all your questions.
In order to show you the most direct significance of this word in general, but also in the life of the common man, we, the artists of the exhibition and the students of the European class in the Stifts- Gymnasium Xanten, took a typology that clearly defines and shows it.
Whereas some works shown are still lives, visitors also have the opportunity to witness the notion of '' identity '' seen in the videos. These are a performance made by German and foreign artists who have made it possible to vividly display some aspects of conflicting identities. The other video is a mash-up of artists’ dancing performances made by Martina Cavallanti.
Why is our exhibition special?
We are a group of students from 7 countries, Germany, Palestine, Turkey, USA, Italy, Spain and Montenegro, which, with the help of the art teacher, Fabian Bohlmann and strong will managed to explain and demonstrate a different notion of identity. At first, this is a very simple word, but if we delve deeper, it suddenly gets difficult to define it. What makes me, me? Who am I? Is ‘I’ or ‘am I’ a fixed entity, someone definable as one yesterday, today tomorrow? Or do we only struggle permanently to create the illusion of difference, singularity and independence? These questions have led us through all this. They managed to initiate our imagination and create a mountain of ideas from which we dug up this kind of exhibition. You possibly will not understand it completely because these here are very personal viewpoints of different cultures, habits and food from our countries. This here is where all our ‘’we’’ is. And that '' we '' the artists, want to share and are sharing today with you.
